SALEM, MA - The Endicott College Gulls women's basketball team dropped a tough non-conference road decision to north shore neighbor Salem State College on Tuesday night at the James Twohig Gymnasium.
SSC (7-3) jumped out to a 43-32 first half lead and never looked back in snapping its two-game losing streak. The Lady Vikings received a team-high 15 points in 21 minutes from Michelle Gosselin (Underhill, VT/Rice Memorial), who returned to action after missing the last five games with a leg injury. Gosselin also recorded three assists, two steals and a game-high three blocks.
Salem State center Danielle Jenkins (Marlborough, MA/Marlborough) added 14 points while junior forward Lindsey Watkins (Wareham, MA/Wareham) contributed 12 points and a game-high seven rebounds for the home team. Junior guard Melissa Macchi (Peabody, MA/Peabody) dished out a game-high 10 assists for the Lady Vikings.
Salem State shot the ball well on Tuesday night, as the Lady Vikings shot 30-for-60 from the floor (50%). SSC used a tough and physical defense, challenging the Gulls and forcing the visitors to turn the ball over 27 times on the evening. Salem State turned those 27 turnovers into 31 points.
The Gulls were led by sophomore guard Nicole Duchesne's (Plaistow, NH/Central Catholic) game-high 18 points. Sophomore forward Nicole Young (Rockland, MA/Cardinal Spellman) added 14 points and two blocks. Duchesne and freshman Ceciley Chisholm (Lexington, MA/Lexington) led the Gulls with five rebounds each.
The Gulls, now 6-5 on the year, return to action in exactly one week (01/16/07), as they travel north to take on CCC foe University of New England. Tip-Off is scheduled for 6:00 PM in Biddeford, ME.
