Final Stats

BEVERLY, MA - The Endicott Gulls opened their home schedule today with an afternoon game versus the Bridgewater State College Bears. The Gulls could not overcome the timely hitting of the Bears and lost 8-4. This loss drops the Gulls to 2-8 on the season while the Bears improve to 6-7.

The bright spot for the Gulls today was senior Matt Bishop (Woburn, MA/Woburn) who finished with a home run and a triple to go along with two RBI's and two runs scored. Bishop hit the solo shot in the first inning on a hanging breaking ball by Bears pitcher Brian Schilling (Weymouth, MA/Weymouth). Schilling regained his composure quickly and pitched no hit ball until he was taken out of the game after the sixth inning. Another surprise for the Gulls was the hitting of junior Erik Fields (Swampscott, MA/Swampscott). In his first two at-bats of the season he recorded his first two hits.

Playing well for the Bears in addition to Schilling was senior Jason Arraiol (Taunton, MA/Taunton) who had two runs scored and two stolen bases. Sophomore Steve Smith (East Taunton, MA/East Taunton) had three singles and two RBI's.

The Gulls are back in action tomorrow when they travel to out of conference rival Salem State. The game is scheduled to begin at 3:00pm.
