April 11, 2006 - The Emmanuel College Club Baseball Team is flying high after the events of an exciting and historical weekend. The Saints were able to secure their first win in club history on Saturday against the Terriers of Boston University, 7-5. Emmanuel then proved that it was no fluke with another victory on Sunday over the Mount Ida College Mustangs, 11-10.
Against the Terriers, the Saints jumped ahead early scoring twice in the 4th inning and then plated five more in the 5th to give them a 7-0 lead. Winning pitcher, sophomore Stephen Melville (1-0), went 6 strong innings allowing 3 hits, 2 runs, while striking out 7 batters. Melville also led the Saints offensive attack with 3 hits and 2 RBIs. Junior left-fielder Mike Zakarian and freshman 1st baseman Dan Palazzo both reached base safely three times during the game, each with two walks and a single. Senior 3rd baseman Greg Petzold and sophomore 2nd baseman Michael Fusco each plated two runs a piece for the Saints.
B.U. chipped away scoring two runs in the 6th, one in the 7th, and two more in the 8th, but behind the arm of freshman pitcher Tyler Norton who recorded the save, the Saints kept them in check in the 9th to pull off the 7-5 upset victory.
On Sunday, the Saints again took an early lead scoring six runs in the 3rd inning. Winning pitcher, junior Dan Campagna (1-0), made the lead stand up hurling 5 innings in which he allowed only 2 hits and struck out 7 Mustang batters. At the plate, Campagna helped his own cause going 2 for 3 with 3 RBIs and scoring 2 runs while junior right fielder Mike Zakarian, freshman catcher Holt Pagano, and freshman left-fielder Andrew Crawford each chipped in with two hits a piece. Pagano also scored two runs. The Saints pulled together for a four run 7th inning in which Zakarian would score the eventual game winning run.
The Mustangs continued to battle in the middle innings, taking advantage of Emmanuel fielding errors. They scored three runs in the 4th inning, two in the 5th, three more in the 7th and their final two runs in the 8th. Eight of the Mustangs ten runs were unearned. Freshman pitcher Tyler Norton was once again asked to close the game for the Saints and he recorded the last five outs to notch his second save in as many days.

Sophomore pitcher Lisa Donehey (Hull, MA) picked up the win and improved her overall ERA to 1.91.
The second game featured a 4-4 tie heading into the seventh inning, when the Johnson & Wales senior catcher hit a 2-run homer, giving the Wildcats a 6-4 lead.
