April 28, 2003 - The Men's and Women's Track & Field Team concluded their first official outdoor season this weekend at the Brown University Invitational Meet. After suffering through four rainy weekends in a row, the track team was happy to be competing on Sunday instead of on Saturday. Freshman Laura Mason continued her impressive record-breaking streak by becoming the first Emmanuel Track & Field athlete to qualify for the outdoor New England Division lll Championships. Laura qualified in the shot-put with a throw of 33'7.5". She also broke her own record in the discus with a throw of 102'5". Laura will compete in the championships at Williams College on Saturday (5/3).
In his first time competing in the long jump, Sophomore Scott Holmes set the outdoor record with a jump of 16'1'. He was also a member of the record-breaking 4 x 100m relay team (46.58) with Sophomores T.J. Welch, Derrick Trotman, and Team Captain Serghino Rene. Sophomore Lindsay Hann improved her javelin best with a throw of 70'7". Sophomore Elise Grant achieved her personal best in the discus with a throw of 65'1". Sophomore Shanna Villanueva improved on her seasonal best in the 1500m with a time of 5:55.90.

The Softball Team finished up their season on Friday, losing in the quarterfinals of the GNAC Tournament. The Saints were defeated by Suffolk University, 7-2. Emmanuel finished the season with an overall record of 13-18 and a conference record of 9-10. The Saints placed 7th in the GNAC out of 13 teams. Sophomore Catcher Erin Woodbury (.458), Junior 1st Baseman Katie Foley (.424), and Junior Shortstop Tara Stanford (.413) led the Saints in hitting. Foley also led Emmanuel in RBIs (36) and doubles (12). Freshman Pitcher Alexis Lawrence ended the season with a 2.24 ERA. Foley, along with Senior Pitcher Carrie Rodman and Senior 2nd Baseman Katie Baribeault, were the team's most consistent fielders, with .963, .962, and .949 fielding percentages, respectively.
April 22, 2003 - The Men's and Women's Track & Field Team competed in the Northeastern University Husky Invitational on Saturday. After three straight weekends of rain the Saints finally got a chance to run in the sun. Even though the weather was brisk and the wind was blowing at a good clip, the Saints set several records. Freshman Laura Mason continued her onslaught of the record books, setting two more school records. Laura began the day by setting a new javelin record with a throw of 86'6.5". She continued by breaking her own record in the discus with a throw of 95'0". The other record breaker for the Saints was Freshman Jairus Oxendine. Jairus established new school records in both 110m (16.35) and 400m hurdles (63.33). Several other team members had great performances. Sophomore Captain Serghino Rene and Sophomore Derrick Trotman ran their best times of the season in the 400m. Sophomore Terrence Welch improved his time in the 200m and Freshman Ashley Nigro continued her triple duty in the 100m, 200m, and the shotput. Joining Laura Mason in the throws were Sophomore Elise Grant, Freshman Libny Gabin and Cynthia Vega. Junior Kellie Folsom also improved on her outdoor performances in the 400m. For complete results:

The Saints will compete at the Brown University Invitational in Rhode Island next Sunday at 11:00 am.
The Softball Team swept Southern Vermont College in a double-header yesterday. The Saints won the first game, 9-0, and the second game, 8-0. Sophomore Catcher Erin Woodbury is currently leading Emmanuel and the GNAC in hitting, with a .462 batting average. Junior 1st Baseman Katie Foley is ranked 7th in the conference in hitting, with a .422 batting average. Foley also leads the conference in RBIs (35) and doubles (10). The Saints finished the regular season with a GNAC record of 8-9 and an overall record of 12-17. Emmanuel will now advance to the quarterfinals of the GNAC Tournament. The Saints will host this tournament game on Wednesday at 3:30 pm at Roberto Clemente Field (The Fens). Their opponent (Rivier or Simmons) has not yet been determined.
April 14, 2003 - The Emmanuel College Softball Team will celebrate Senior Day today at their double-header games vs. Johnson & Wales University, beginning at 3:30 pm. The three Emmanuel seniors are Pitcher Carrie Rodman, 2nd Baseman Katie Baribeault, and Outfielder Jen Logan. The Saints swept Saint Joseph College yesterday in a double-header, 11-1 and 19-0. Freshman Alexis Lawrence pitched the first game, giving up only one run, and Senior Carrie Rodman pitched a 2-hitter shut-out in the second game. Junior Katie Foley led the Saints, hitting 5 for 8 with 14 RBIs. Foley is now batting .500, with a .534 on-base-percentage, and a .740 slugging percentage. Junior Shotstop Tara Stanford is Emmanuel's second leading hitter, batting .426, while Freshman Catcher Erin Woodbury is hitting .423. Emmanuel is now 4-3 in the GNAC and 6-11 overall heading into today's games. The Saints will play again tomorrow at Emerson College (on Boston Common) in a double-header beginning at 4:00 pm.

April 11, 2003 - The Emmanuel Softball Team was defeated yesterday in both games of their double-header with Suffolk University. The Saints lost the first game 2-1 and the second game 5-1. Congratulations to Junior 1st Baseman Katie Foley. She was named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Softball Player of the Week for her performances in Emmanuel's conference games last week. Foley batted .778, hitting 7 for 9, with 3 walks, while playing errorless defense in 22 chances. Foley was 7 for 8 in a double-header sweep over Rivier College. She currently leads the Saints and is ranked 2nd in the GNAC in hitting with a .476 batting average. She also leads Emmanuel in RBIs with 8. Freshman Pitcher Alexis Lawrence continues to hold the 2nd lowest ERA in the conference (1.53). The Saints are now 2-3 in the GNAC and 4-11 overall. They'll play again today in a double-header at Johnson & Wales University at 2:00 pm. The next Emmanuel home game is on Sunday vs. Saint Joseph College at 12:00 pm.
The Men's and Women's Track & Field Team had their meet at Fitchburg State College postponed last week due to the weather. They will compete at Fitchburg tomorrow at 11:00 am.
April 2, 2003 - The Women's Basketball Team's first round NCAA tournament game vs. Salve Regina University will be televised several times over the next two weeks. The game will be shown on Comcast (channel A12) in Boston and Brookline. The times for viewing are as follows:
