May 13, 2005

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa.---The Indiana (Pa.) Indians overcame a pitchers dual in the early innings for a 6-1 win over Elizabeth City State in game six of the NCAA Division II Mid-Atlantic Region championships on Friday afternoon.

The Indians (24-16) Amber Pangallo and Elizabeth City's (16-14) Alicia Graham went four scoreless innings before IUP broke through in the top of the fifth with three runs.

Katey Reed hit a triple to right field that scored pinch runner Jenny Rodgers for the first run of the game. Reed would score on an error on the next play. An RBI single by Melissa Klingensmith completed the scoring in the inning for a 3-0 lead.

Three more IUP runs crossed the plate in the sixth inning for a 6-0 lead. With the bases loaded, Julie Huebner was hit by a pitch to score Sara Tripoli. Reed had her second RBI hit of the game, a single to center field that sent Carolyn Fendrich in to score. Becky Lewis drove in a run on a fielders choice play.

Tiffany Smith put Elizabeth City State on the board with a home run over the right field fence to cut the IUP lead to 6-1.

Hilary Tutrani and Katey Reed led IUP, each going 2-for-3.

Pangello earned the win, giving up three hits with one run. She struck out four and goes to 3-9 on the year.
