DAYTON DUO TAKES HOME HONORABLE MENTION ALL-AMERICA HONORS

Senior Jamie-Lee Richards was one of two Flyers honored by the AVCA with Honorable Mention All-America awards

Dec. 12, 2007

SACRAMENTO, CA - The University of Dayton volleyball program had a pair of players take home Honorable Mention All-America honors on Wednesday from the American Volleyball Coaches Association. Senior Jamie-Lee Richards and redshirt junior Erin Schroeder were honored following another Championship season for the Flyers.

The pair now gives the Dayton program eight All-America honors overall including seven since 2007 AVCA Northeast Region Coach of the Year Tim Horsmon took over the program five years ago. This also marks just the second time in UD history that multiple players have earned All-America awards. The other came in 2004 when both Christy Utnage and Faye Barhorst were honored.

Richards saved her best season in Red and Blue for her last as she led UD with 3.91 kills per game in 2007. After tallying just 33 service aces in her first three seasons as a Flyer, Richards put up 65 alone during her senior campaign to lead the team. She was a First Team All-Atlantic 10 selection and was also named the Most Outstanding Player of the Atlantic 10 Championship.

Schroeder paced UD to 21 victories by 3-0 sweep by controlling the Flyer offensive and defensive attack thoughout the season. Dayton tallied kills on 42.1 percent of the balls set by Schroeder who averaged 12.01 assists per game in 2007. She was also second on the team with 2.84 digs per game and is more than 80 percent of the way to becoming just the second player in program history to record both 1,000 career assists and 1,000 career digs. Schroeder was Second Team All-Conference selection this season while also being named to the All-Championship Team.

Dayton enjoyed its best season in program history in 2007 with a 33-2 overall record culminating with a trip to the second round of the NCAA Tournament. The Flyers were ranked in the CSTV/AVCA Top 25 Coaches Poll for the first time ever and reached as high as 12th in the Poll at one point. UD won its fourth straight Atlantic 10 Regular Season Championship and took home the Atlantic 10 Tournament Title for the fourth time in five years. The Flyers also hosted NCAA First and Second Round matches for the first time ever in front of sold-out crowds at Frericks Center.
