Oct. 9, 2004 PHILADELPHIA - Three Dayton players had big days for the Flyers in a 3-1 (20-30, 30-20, 30-21, 30-21) win over La Salle in Atlantic 10 volleyball play at Tom Gola Arena. With the win, UD improved to 12-6 overall and 4-1 in the A-10 while La Salle dropped to 7-13, 0-4 A-10. The UD offense hit .289 as a team as a trio of Flyers reached double digits in kills. Sophomore Faye Barhorst (Fort Loramie, Ohio) had a near perfect match as she had 24 kills in 30 swings with no errors for an .800 hitting percentage. The two-time A-10 Player of the Week set a new NCAA Division I record for hitting percentage in a match for a player with a minimum of 30 attacks. She also added six blocks to total 27.5 of Dayton's 85.0 points in the match. Senior outside hitter Christy Utnage (Indianapolis, Ind.) recorded a double-double, her 10th of the season and third straight overall, with 16 kills and 16 digs to go along with two blocks and a service ace. Freshman Amanda Kenny (Oak Lawn, Ill.) also tallied a double-double with 15 kills and 12 digs for UD. Junior setter Nicole Schott (Roscoe, Ill.) was a factor on both offense and defense as she dished out 45 assists while recording 11 digs. Freshman libero Adrienne Green (Palatine, Ill.) led the Flyers with 17 digs to hold La Salle to a .142 team hitting percentage. Dayton returns home to host A-10 rivals Duquesne and George Washington next weekend at the Frericks Center. UD will take on the Dukes Friday and the Colonials Saturday. Match time is scheduled for 7 p.m. both nights. |
