PITTSBURGH, Pa. - The University of Dayton volleyball team dug down for a 3-1 win over Pittsburgh Saturday night to win the Pittsburgh Classic at Fitzgerald Fieldhouse. Faye Barhorst (Ft. Loramie, OH) was named Tournament MVP after setting a Fieldhouse record with eight solo blocks. Joining her on the All-Tournament team were Christy Utnage (Indianapolis, IN) and Robynne Green (Palatine, IL).

Barhorst finished with 16 kills in the match and 51 in the tournament. She connected for a .500 hitting percentage for the Classic and a .378 mark versus Pittsburgh.

Utnage added 15 kills for the match and 42 in the tournament to go with five aces in three games. Against the Panthers, Utnage had 17 digs for a double-double. Robynne Green had nine kills versus the Panthers and 19 for the tourney. She also posted 13 blocks in three matches. Her sister Adrienne Green pulled out 26 digs in the match and 54 in the Classic.

The Flyers dropped game one 30-22 before rallying with 30-24, 30-28 and 30-23 wins. Both Pittsburgh (9-4) and Dayton (8-5) went 2-1 in the Classic, but the Flyers earned the championship with the head-to-head win over the Panthers.

The Flyers are back in action on Wednesday at Xavier in the Atlantic 10 opener before returning to the Frericks Center on Friday and Saturday for A-10 contests with Fordham and Rhode Island.
