Oct. 15, 2004 Dayton, Ohio - Senior outside hitter Christy Utnage carried Dayton to a 3-0 (32-30, 30-26, 30-25) sweep of Duquesne in Atlantic 10 volleyball action on Friday night in front of 497 fans at the Frericks Center. Utnage (Indianapolis, Ind.) tallied a UD season-high and career-best 24 kills while hitting .541 to lead the Flyers (13-6, 5-1 A-10) who have now won seven if their last eight matches. Utnage finished with her fourth straight double-double as she added 10 digs and three blocks. Overall, Dayton out hit Duquesne (9-12, 2-4 A-10) .206 to .125 behind 43 assists from junior setter Nicole Schott (Roscoe, Ill.). Sophomore middle blocker Faye Barhorst (Fort Loramie, Ohio) was factor on offense and defense with 10 kills and a match-high six blocks. Senior Shanna Pressler (Archbold, Ohio) had a solid all-around night with nine kills, nine digs and four blocks for the Flyers. UD won a tightly played match with a stingy defense as the Flyers had a 13.0 to 7.5 advantage in blocks and a 52 to 49 edge in digs. Freshman libero Adrienne Green (Palatine, Ill) had a match-high 17 digs on the night. Dayton returns to action on Saturday night against A-10 rival George Washington at the Frericks Center. Match time is scheduled for 7 p.m. |
