FLYERS SURVIVE SCARE FROM RAMS ON FRIDAY THE THIRTEENTH

DAYTON, Ohio - After rolling to a 2-0 lead in the match, Dayton had to fight back from an 11-point deficit in game three to sweep visiting Rhode Island, 3-0 (30-18, 30-20, 30-26) on Friday in Atlantic 10 volleyball action at Frericks Center.

The Flyers (16-5, 6-0 A-10) remain atop of the Atlantic 10 West Division standings following their 18th consecutive regular season victory in conference play. The win was also the seventh straight of the season for Dayton, which plays host to Fordham on Saturday at 5 p.m. ET in a match that can be followed live with Gametracker at www.DaytonFlyers.com.

UD also recorded 50 digs on the night during its annual `Dig for the Cure' match to raise money for the Greater Cincinnati Chapter of the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation. Four Flyers recorded 10 digs or more on the night including junior Jamie-Lee Richards who posted a double-double for the second match in a row. Richards tallied 13 digs and 14 kills while hitting at a .300 clip while adding two service aces for UD.

Sophomore Nicole Bateman followed with 12 digs for the Flyers. Classmate Erin Schroeder added 10 digs and 50 assists while junior libero Adrienne Green added 10 digs of her own for Dayton which held a 50-41 edge overall in the match.

Senior All-America candidate Faye Barhorst led all players with a .500 hitting percentage, 16 kills and three blocks. She now has 1,615 career kills and is just the third player in UD history to record the 1,600 kill plateau.

Despite a decided advantage overall in hitting percentage (.336 to .173), kills (56-32) and service aces (9-5), UD was forced to perform its largest single-game comeback of the season as it trailed by a score of 1-12 to begin game three before eventually evening the count at 24-all en route to a 30-26 victory in game three.
