CINCINNATI - The Dayton Flyer volleyball team dropped its regular season finale at Cincinnati, 0-3 (24-30, 26-30, 23-30) in non-conference action at Fifth Third Arena on Saturday. The Flyers (23-8) will now wait to find out their First Round opponent in the NCAA Tournament, which will be announced Sunday as part of the NCAA Selection Show on ESPN News, live at 6:45 p.m. The Bearcats improved to 22-11 with the victory and will wait until Sunday to see if they will advance to postseason play with an at-large berth. UD was led by 15 kills and 11 digs from Atlantic 10 Player of the Year Christy Utnage (Indianapolis, IN). The senior now ranks fifth and ninth in career digs and kills respectively while also placing fourth and fifth in single season attack attempts and kills. Although Utnage was the only Flyer to reach double-digits in kills, she was one of three to tally at least 10 digs on the afternoon. Freshman Courtney Pettke (Milwaukee, WI) had a team-high 12 for UD while Utnage and freshman libero Adrienne Green (Palatine, IL) added 11 each. Dayton hit .214 as a team as junior Nicole Schott (Roscoe, IL) dished out 37 assists. Freshman All-Rookie Team member Robynne Green (Palatine, IL) posted nine kills while hitting .250 to go along with four digs and a block for the Flyers. Sophomore All-Conference selection Faye Barhorst (Fort Loramie, OH) finished with a .308 hitting percentage with six kills and two blocks for Dayton who had 8.0 blocks to the Bearcats' 6.0. |
