DAYTON, Ohio - Freshman Ashley Cattran broke a school record in her collegiate debut as the University of Dayton track and field team competed at the Oiler Open Saturday on the campus of the University of Findlay. Cattran, who ran the 300 meter dash in a school-record time of 42.40, outdistanced more than 16 runners for fourth place. Stacy Chew (42.61) owned the previous 300 meter dash record, which was posted at last year's Oiler Open. This year Chew improved upon her time in the event, finishing 42.45 for sixth place. In the sprints, sophomore Lauren McCormick (7.72) outdistanced 13 runners for a second place finish in the 60 meter dash. McCormick (26.39) and sophomore Brittany Thomas (27.17) posted impressive times in the 200 meter dash to finish third and seventh, respectively. Emma Steinmetz and Andrea Cornell led Dayton in the 60 meter hurdles finishing in the top 10. Steinmetz clocked in at 9.52 for ninth place, while Cornell placed 10th in 9.60. In the 400 meter dash, Sarah Howley led the way for UD. She crossed the line at 1:04.79 for 11th place. Sophomore Briona Gresham was the only Flyer to compete in the long jump and triple jump, leaping 14-08.50 and 33-01.25, respectively. Junior Amy Kremer competed in the high jump and finished with a jump of 5-06.00, good for third place. In the field events, Pembroke Strickland cleared a height of 9-06.25 in the pole vault. The freshmen looked strong in the throwing events as Sarah Allen (45-07.00) and Johnna Zaccari (44-05.50) made the top 10 in the shot put, placing third and sixth, respectively. Freshman Mallory Barnes finished 10th in the weight throw for a 51-06.25 distance. Next up for the Flyers is the Indiana Invitational on Jan. 12. UD will head to Bloomington, Indiana for the team's second indoor meet of the season. |
