May 4, 2007 DAYTON, Ohio - The University of Dayton Track and Field team is set to compete in the 11th annual Atlantic 10 Outdoor Track and Field Championships this weekend as the team travels to Charlotte, North Carolina for its last outdoor meet of the year. The Flyers will look to improve upon its fourth place finish at the 2006 A-10 Championships, which was the best-ever finish in program history. The Championship, held at Irwin Belk Track & Field Center on Charlotte's campus, will be video streamed for the first time in league history and can be followed with live stats on line at www.atlantic10.org. UD is coming off a strong showing at the Stan Lyons Invitational on April 28 as 14 team members set personal bests and the team posted 18 Top 10 finishes. Last year, Dayton finished with 90.5 points overall, wining three events including the shot put, high jump, and heptathlon. Kelly Pohlman, a 2006 UD graduate, took home gold in the shot put (47-05.00), while current team member Amy Kremer won a medal in the high jump (5-07.00) and the heptathlon (4243 points). Kremer will look to take home gold once again as she currently sits in second place in the heptathlon on the Conference outdoor performance list with 4,362 points. She is also listed in sixth place in the high jump with her leap of 5-04.50 recorded at the All-Ohio Championships. Her highest jump to date is 5-07.75 as she currently holds UD's record in the event. Look for freshman Lauren McCormick to be a strong competitor in the 100 meter dash and 200 meter dash. This freshman Flyer was named Atlantic 10 Rookie of the week last week for her strong performances at the Stan Lyons Invite. McCormick finished third in the 100 meter dash (12.04) and sixth in the 200 meter dash (25.02) recording career best times along the way. In addition, she was also a member of the 4x1 relay team to record a new school record in 47.64 at the All-Ohio's. Liz Forster is also a member of the 4x100 relay team to record a new school record at the All-Ohio Championships. In addition, she was a member of the 4x400 relay team to post a new season best (3:56.10). She will be competing in three relay events at the Championships this year including the 4x100, 4 x400, and the 4x800. Jacqueline Jaworek has been a strong competitor in the 3000 meter this season improving upon her time drastically. Jaworek posted a personal best in the 3000 meter run at the Stan Lyons Invite running 10:45.68 finishing 10th overall and 17 seconds faster than her previous time. She will be competing in the 5000 meter on Sunday. Other Flyers to look out for include, Sydney Hubbard, who recorded a career best in the 3000 meter steeplechase last weekend coming in at 11:40.81 merely two seconds of the school record. She is in seventh place in the A-10 outdoor standings. In the pole vault, freshman Katie DeVault recorded a new school record during the season placing 18th out of 26 clearing 10-00.00 on her way to a new record in Cincinnati. She held the previous pole vaulting record at 9-06.25 which she recorded at the Miami Invitational on April 14. In the Atlantic 10 outdoor standings, Candace McKinley holds the eighth place in the shot put and the fourth spot in the javelin, while Kremer is in ninth and 14th in the same events. Molly McCarty is 11th in the shot put and holds the ninth spots in both the hammer and discus throw all of which will be strong competitors in the throwing events.
