The Dayton women's tennis team returned to action Friday for the opening day of the Ball State Invitational. UD was led by junior Allysa Detroy, who recorded a victory in doubles and the Flight "A" Singles draw. Several players are still alive for Dayton heading into day two. Detroy teamed up with senior Kate Mellion in doubles, and took care of business with an 8-0 opening-round win against Tiffani Foster and Christa Ames of Wright State. A 6-2, 3-6, (10-6) victory over Ashley Coulson of IPFW propelled Detroy into the second round in singles action. Junior Kara Metzger and sophomore Carrie Trigilio were also victorious in doubles as they held off Victoria Cann and Mary Beth Gunn of Tennessee Martin for a hard-fought 9-7 win. Junior Megan Gray looked sharp in her Flight "B" Singles opener with a 6-1, 6-0 defeat of Wisconsin-Milwaukee's Ashley Clark. Also advancing into round two for the Flyers was Trigilio in Flight "C", while sophomore Nikki Dzubay will begin action Saturday in the backdraw semifinals of Flight "C". Matches will conclude in Muncie, IN on Saturday. |
