Friday's Results

Sophomore Molly Mathews was perfect in singles on Friday as Dayton opened its season at the Ball State Invitational. Four other Flyers won their opening round matches, and Mathews will begin play on Saturday with a chance to advance to the Flight "D" singles final.

Mathews posted a pair of straight sets wins reach the semifinals. In her first match, she defeated Stephanie Okuma of Northern Illinois 6-4, 6-3, before cruising to a 7-5, 6-0 win over Wisconsin-Milwaukee's Lauren Fenley in the quarterfinals. Mathews will play Miami's Jessica Linden in Saturday's first semifinal.

Other Flyers who won their first round match included senior Allysa Detroy in Flight "A", freshman Chelsea Glankler in Flight "B", and sophomore Erin Wilkie and freshman Chelsea Gray in Flight "D".

In addition, senior Megan Gray reached the Flight "A" singles backdraw semifinal, and junior Nikki Dzubay advanced the to Flight "C" backdraw semis.

In doubles, Dzubay teamed with freshman Kelly O'Connell to record UD's lone first-round victory. However, Detroy and Megan Gray reached the Flight "A" doubles backdraw final, while Chelsea Gray and Mathews will play in Saturday's Flight "D" doubles backdraw final.

Saturday's action from the Cardinal Creek Tennis Center will begin at 9 a.m.
