The Dayton women's tennis team kicked off the 2006-07 campaign at day one of the Bowling Green Invitational on Saturday. Junior Allysa Detroy and senior Kate Mellion teamed up at #1 doubles to record the only round one victory on the day for the Flyers, and will play in the semifinal match Sunday. Detroy and Mellion defeated Youngstown State's duo of Gina Peretti and Allison Day 8-6 in the first round. Next up is the doubles team of Sarah Galon and Morgan Ungernott from Cleveland State. Detroy and Mellion are also still alive in the singles draw. A 6-3, 6-0 win over Denisa Muntean at #2 singles in the semifinals of the backdraw puts Detroy in today's backdraw final against Ulrikke VonUbisch University of Illinois-Chicago. Mellion takes on Gina Peretti of YSU Sunday in a backdraw match. Junior Megan Gray and sophomores Carrie Trigilio, Amanda O'Connell and Nikki Dzubay each have one backdraw match remaining on Sunday as well. Tournament play wraps up Sunday. While no team scores will are being kept, individual flight winners we be awarded. |
