Richmond, KY - The UD women's tennis team had a busy weekend, playing three matches in two days. The Flyers traveled to Kentucky, where they faced Eastern Kentucky, Lipscomb and Morehead State. The team finished with a 1-2 record on the weekend -- the win coming against Lipscomb.

The weekend started with a loss on Friday to Eastern Kentucky. The Colonels were too much for the Flyers, defeating the team 7-0.

Women's tennis redeemed themselves by winning their next match against Lipscomb 5-2. The Flyers had four singles wins. Senior Erin Kirkland (Dayton, OH) defeated Erin Moakler 6-3, 6-0. Freshman Allysa Detroy (Evansville, IN) gave the Flyers a win against Emily Ellis 6-4, 6-0. Sophomore Kate Mellion (Clinton, OH) was victorious against Samantha Duggan 6-4, 1-6, 6-1. The final singles win came from freshman Megan Gray (Akron, OH) by defeating Jamie Aid 6-1, 6-1.

In doubles, Kirkland and Detroy teamed up to defeat Ellis and Moakler 8-2. The other win came from Gray and Cabanski who were victorious against Aid/Khouri 8-4.

On Saturday, the team had a close loss to Morehead State 4-3. In singles, Kirkland defeated Mariana Weschenfelder 6-4, 6-2. Metzger had the other singles win against Leah Lobnitz 6-3, 6-3.

The Flyers were more successful in doubles, winning two of their three matches. Kirkland and senior Courtney McDowell (Centerville, OH) defeated Alex Becka and Yolanda Araujo (MSU) 9-7. Sophomore Kara Metzger (Franksville, WI) teamed up with Detroy to win against Weschenfelder and Laura Ferreira 8-3.

The women's tennis team recorded is now 3-6.

The Flyers next match is Friday, February 18 at home against IPFW at 6:00 p.m. The team will then travel to Michigan to face Detroit on Sunday, February 20 at 12:00 p.m.
