AMHERST, MA - The UD softball team fell, 3-0, to Atlantic 10 leader Massachusetts Friday in game one of a doubleheader. UD starting pitcher Melissa Myher (8-15) struck out six and walked none as all three runs were unearned. Dayton is now 16-26 overall and 6-9 in the Atlantic 10. UMass, the 17-time A-10 Champions, are now 29-13 overall and 13-2 in the A-10. UMass starter Brandice Balschmiter allowed just two hits and walked three while striking out seven to pick up her 22nd win. Dayton put two on in the third, when Ellie Malchow walked and Mollie Schrank singled, but Balschmiter escaped the jam. In the fourth, Lauren Proctor reached on a two-out single for the Minutewomen, and then an error on the infield put two on. A single by Ferrara plated the go-ahead run. In the fifth, another two-out error opened tRShe door for UMass. Stacy Cullington capitalized by hitting a two-run single down the right-field line to cap the scoring.
