Ft. Wayne, IN - Melissa Myher shut out IPFW, 2-0, in game one and Tamsyn Kellough's home run in the top of the seventh forced extra innings, but the Flyers split with the Mastadons by falling in eight innings, 11-10. In the doubleheader, Tamsyn Kellough went four-for-six with two runs scored, three batted in, two walks and a huge home run in the top of the seventh to force extra innings in game two. Sheena Rothwell went four-four-eight with four runs scored, her first home run of the year, and a pair of runs batted in. The Flyers are now 16-25 on the season, and remain 6-8 in the Atlantic 10. In game one, Myher scattered six hits, striking out two for her first shutout of the season. Kellough was two-for-three at the plate, with an RBI in game one. Dayton scored the first run of the game in the fifth. After two walks and an error, Kellough drew a bases-loaded walk for a 1-0 lead. In the sixth, Sheena Rothwell homered to left field for her first home run of the season and a 2-0 lead. Myher improved to 8-13 on the year with back-to-back wins. Game two turned into a slugfest inthe third inning. Dayton had a 2-0 lead after two on a pair of unearned runs. The Flyers added two more in the third, Blair Crabtree singled and was sacrificed over, Tami Roudebush reached on an error and Rothwell singled through the left side for a 3-0 lead. Laura Matthews singled to keep the inning going with one out, and Lauren Schneider drove in a run on a fieder's choice But the Mastadons exploded for six runs in the bottom of the inning. Back-to-back doubles got IPFW on the board, and the 'Dons added four RBI singles to take a 6-4 lead. Dayton opened the fourth with three straight singles before Kellough drew a bases-loaded walk to cut it to 6-5. IPFW stretched the lead to 8-5 on a three hits in the fourth, and 10-5 after five with when Brooke Walter singled in two runs. The Flyers came back with a four-run sixth. Crabtree and Kellough opened the inning with back-to-back singles, and an error loaded the bases. Matthews reached on an RBI fielder's choice, and Lauren Schneider singled to left to cut it to 10-7. Ellie Malchow added another RBI fielder's choice and then Christine Eggers doubled to right field as the Flyers pulled within one. UD kept the 'Dons off the board in the sixth, and with one out in the seventh, Kellough homered to left center to tie the game on her second homer of the season. But in the eighth, IPFW had two singles to open the inning and then Kacie Stone ended it with a double to left center to plate the winning run. Myher took the loss in relief in game two, pitching three innings and allowing just one earned run. Christine Eggers was two for five on the day with five walks and now has a .727 batting average (eight-for-11) and a .824 on-base percentage in four games vs IPFW. One of the three times Eggers wasn't credited with reaching base, she reached on an error. UD travels to New England for a weekend road trip at Atlantic 10 foes Massachusetts (doubleheader Friday, 3:00 p.m.) and Rhode Island (doubleheader Sunday, noon).
