DAYTON, Ohio - The University of Dayton softball team ended an eight-game losing streak in the finale of an Atlantic 10 doubleheader against George Washington on Saturday at UD Softball Stadium winning game two, 6-4. The Flyers fell to the Colonials in the opener, 5-3 as UD moved to 6-23 and 2-9 in the A-10.

The Colonials are now 19-20 and 6-8 in the conference.

Christine Eggers and Molly Meyer both went 2-for-3 with two runs scored in game two. Mollie Schrank went 2-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI as designated player Sheena Rothwell gave a 2-for-2 effort with three RBI in the finale.

Game two was scoreless until the top of the third when the Colonials got on with a run from Hilary King.

Molly Meyer opened the bottom of the third with a single, and she moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Eggers. Schrank followed with a single advancing to second on a throw scoring Meyers for the Flyers lone run of the inning.

GW picked up a run in the fourth and both teams added two more in the fifth as Eggers and Schrank hit back-to-back singles to start the bottom of the fifth inning. After Crabtree advanced both runners on a sacrifice bunt, Rothwell belted a two RBI single to drive in the runs, but the Flyers still trailed, 4-3.

Dayton rallied in the sixth as pinch-hitter Lauren Schnieder hit a single to right field. Meyer followed with a single of her own as Ellie Malchow ran for Schneider advancing to second on the play. An Eggers single loaded the bases as Schrank reached on a fielder's choice adding another run for UD. Crabtree sacrifice bunted to score Meyer and Rothwell blasted a single to score Eggers as Dayton scored all the runs they would need to win game two, 6-4.

Erin Lafayette (2-5) earned the win in relief pitching three strong innings. She gave up two hits and walked one in the second game.

The Flyers dropped the opener despite a strong hitting effort from Meyer who went 2-for-3 with two RBI.

Tamsyn Kellough went 1-for-2 scoring a run and Maggie Stopka gave a 1-for-3 performance with two runs of her own.

GW got on board first in the top of the second behind Colleen Kegler who scored a run for the Colonials.

UD put one up in the bottom of the same inning as Laura Matthews reached on an error by the pitcher and Stopka reached on a fielder's choice. Meyer singled and advanced on the throw as Stopka scored to tie the score, 1-1.

The Colonials scored three runs in the third behind a Caroline Howe double and Tori Sensi single as GW took the lead, 4-1.

Dayton added two in the fourth as Kellough walked to start the inning. Stopka and Malchow hit back-to-back doubles to plate Kellough as a Meyer single scored Stopka.

George Washington would get the lone run it needed in the fifth inning to win game one as Howe scored on a Sensi double. Both teams were scoreless for the remainder of the game as UD eventually fell to GW, 5-3 in the opener.

LaFayette suffered the loss pitching five innings, giving up four earned runs, striking out one and walking one.

Dayton returns to action on Sunday, April 22 at UD Softball Stadium. The Flyers will face the IPFW Mastodons in a non-conference doubleheader at 12 p.m. ET. Live stats will be available for both games at www.DaytonFlyers.com.
