Box Score

DAYTON, Ohio - The University of Dayton Softball team dropped game one of a non-conference doubleheader against Morehead State on Monday. Blair Crabtree blasted a three-run homerun at University Field in Morehead, Kentucky but it wasn't enough as the Flyers fell, 4-3 in nine innings.

Sheena Rothwell went 3-for-4 in game one, while Blair Crabtree went 1-for-4 with a run scored, also collecting three RBI.

In game one, Morehead State would score first behind a Melody Ross RBI single in the bottom of the second.

UD would step up in the top of third as Ellie Malchow singled to right field. Molly Meyer followed up with a bunt single as both runners would advance a base on a sacrifice bunt by Christine Eggers. Crabtree blasted a three-run home run to left field to gain the lead, 3-1.

After an explosive inning Dayton's offense would stall collecting only three hits the rest of the way. The Eagles collected only two over the next four innings, but scored two runs in the seventh to tie the game.

Both teams would have runners reach base in the eighth inning, but with no prevail. The Flyers loaded the bases in the top of the ninth, with no outs but were held scoreless by the Eagles defense.

In the bottom of the ninth, Morehead State would score one more run behind Courtney Seiler to gain the win, 4-3.

Game two of the doubleheader is set to begin at 4:30 p.m. ET.
