Box Score

INDIANAPOLIS - A middle-inning rally from the Flyers led Dayton to a 7-2 win at IUPUI in the first game of a non-conference doubleheader Wednesday at IUPUI Softball Complex.

UD (10-10-1) scored three times in the second and twice in both the third and fourth innings and held the Jaguars (10-14) off the board until the final inning of the game.

The Flyers were led by a 3-for-4 game from Christine Eggers. She had a pair of triples and scored twice while driving in one run from the leadoff spot.

Six other UD players had one hit apiece including Shannon St. Clair who finished 1-for-3 with a triple and two RBI.

Tami Roudebush was 1-for-3 with a walk and two runs scored for the Flyers.

Melissa Myher pitched her third straight complete-game victory as she scattered nine hits while allowing two runs. Myher fanned four Jaguars and walked just one.

UD put up three runs in the second as Roudebush walked and advanced to second on a wild pitch. She was on third with two outs when Angel Conaway hit an RBI single in her first collegiate at bat to plate Dayton's first run. Eggers and St. Clair followed with a pair of RBI triples which gave the Flyers a 3-0 lead midway through the second.

Dayton added two more runs in the third to take a 5-0 lead. Laura Matthews walked and then pinch runner Jessica Bergman moved to third on singles by Roudebush and Christina Vetter. Ellie Malchow then picked up an RBI with a groundout to second which moved UD runners to second and third with two outs. Roudebush then took advantage of a wild pitch to put Dayton ahead by five runs.

The Flyers finished their rally in the fourth inning with a pair of runs. Eggers led off the frame with her second triple of the game. She then scored on a sacrifice fly by St. Clair. Then with two outs, Cassie Gross singled through the left side and stole second. She then scored on a Jaguar fielding error to give the Flyers a 7-0 lead midway through the fourth inning.

Dayton dominated throughout and did not surrender any runs until IUPUI had just one out remaining in the seventh. The homestanding Jaguars scored twice but Myher induced a fly ball to centerfield which ended the game with Dayton on top 7-2.
