Dayton, OH - The University of Dayton softball team won their first conference game of the season with a 4-1 win over the Rhode Island Rams at UD Softball Stadium. Dayton moves to 8-10-1 overall and 1-2 in the Atlantic 10. Shannon St. Clair was two-for-three with two singles and a walk. Centerfielder Cassie Gross was two-for-three with a single and a double. Melissa Myher struck out 12 against just one walk and only one run allowed. Myher runs her record to 6-3 on the season. Dayton started off the bottom of the first with two walks by freshman Christine Eggers and St. Clair. Tamsyn Kellough flied out to right field a sacrifice to score Eggers. Cassie Gross single up the middle to score St. Clair and put the Flyers up 2-0. The game went scoreless for another three innings until Kellough singled up the middle followed by a double by Gross. Laura Mathews singled to left center to score a pair of runs and give UD a 4-0 lead. The Rams looked to make a come back in the sixth as Harrelson homered over the right centerfield wall. The Flyers were able to shut down the Rams last three batters for the win. Dayton will take on Rhode Island in game two at 2:30 pm. |
