Sept. 26, 2005 DAYTON - University of Dayton sophomore goalkeeper Niki Reed was named the Atlantic 10 Conference's Player of the Week on Monday. Reed made seven saves and posted her third shutout of the season as the Flyers beat Xavier 3-0 in the conference-opener Sunday in Cincinnati. Reed, who transferred to UD from Vanderbilt after last season, made seven saves in the victory over rival Xavier. One off her season-high of eight saves, she made a pair of spectacular diving stops on point-blank Xavier shots 10 minutes apart in the first, helping preserve the 2-0 UD lead at the half. For the season, the Fairfield, Ohio native owns the Atlantic 10's best goals against average at 0.96 and has started all nine games for the Flyers. With Reed's help, the Flyers are off to a 5-2-2 start and posted a pair of ties in non-conference play over No. 6 Virginia and No. 25 William & Mary. In those matches, Reed made eight and seven saves, respectively, over a pair of Top 25 powerhouses. Reed will lead the Flyers back into action this weekend at home against Saint Joseph's and Temple. Friday night, UD entertains the Hawks at 7:30 p.m. at Baujan Field. Sunday, the Owls come to town at 1:00 p.m. |
