WOMEN'S SOCCER TIES RICHMOND IN DOUBLE OVERTIME

Sophomore GK Niki Reed made seven saves for the Flyers.

Oct. 14, 2005

Box Score

DAYTON - The University of Dayton women's soccer team played the University of Richmond to a scoreless tie in double overtime at Baujan Field Friday night. Neither the Flyers (8-3-3, 4-1-1) nor the Spiders were able to capitalize on a number of key scoring chances in earning the draw.

The impressive crowd of 1,003 was entertained, but treated rather to good goalkeeping than scoring in the key Atlantic 10 contest. UD goalkeeper Niki Reed came up with seven saves in the 110 minutes of action while UR keeper Kelly Kolker collected eight saves.

The Flyers outshot the Spiders 20-18 overall, with senior Reba Sedlacek and senior Katie Lowstuter each taking four shots.

The scoreless draw was UD's first since 1991 when the Flyers tied Notre Dame 0-0 at home and only the fourth in the history of the program.

Although the tie does help Dayton in its quest to make the A-10 Championship, it hinders the chances of earning one of the two first-round byes. UD sits in third place in the A-10, trailing Saint Louis and Rhode Island, who each entered tonight undefeated.

The Flyers have just three conference matches left, including Sunday's home finale versus Charlotte. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. The 49ers defeated Xavier Friday night 3-0.
