Box Score

Rochester, MI - The Dayton Flyers (3-3-3) used a barrage of goals from four different players to knock off the Oakland University Grizzlies (3-7-0) 4-1 on Sunday. Holding a 1-0 advantage at the half, UD jumped on the board again early in the second period and never looked back. The game marked the conclusion of the non-conference schedule for the Flyers who head into A-10 play having won three of their last four.

Sophomore Amanda Gallow started the scoring for the Flyers in the 17th minute. Taking a cross from redshirt sophomore Abril Carbajal, Gallow easily volleyed the ball into the back post to put the Flyers up 1-0. UD was able to hold the lead in the first half as the Grizzlies were only able to muster two shots.

The second half brought three additional goals from the Flyers. Freshman Mandi Bäck took the kick-off from midfield and blasted a shot from 22 yards out 11 seconds into the half to give the Flyers a 2-0 lead. Carbajal was able to score a goal of her own as she took a rebound off the Oakland goalkeeper from 12 yards out. Junior Dara Elk rounded out the game by making a beautiful run through to score the fourth goal of the day.

The Grizzlies were able to avoid the shutout on a rocket shot from 18 yards out by Susie Lee in the 73rd minute. On the day, the Flyers out shot the Grizzlies 12-5, including 9-2 advantage in shots on goal. Bäck, Carbajal, and Gallow led the way on shots for the Flyers by tallying three each.

Dayton has a week-long midseason break from game action before heading into the heart of A-10 competition. The Flyers will travel to Amherst to face Massachusetts on Friday, October 6 at 3:00 p.m. EDT. The match can be followed live via Gametracker at www.DaytonFlyers.com.
