LIGHTWEIGHT 8 RANKED NO. 10 IN US ROWING COACHES POLL

Dayton will be racing in the Varsity 8, 2nd Varsity 8, Varsity 4, Novice 8 and Novice 4 events at the Knecht Cup

April 12, 2007

Quickly approaching the halfway mark of the spring season, the Dayton Flyers return to action at the Knecht Cup on Saturday, April 14 starting at 10 a.m. in Camden, N.J.

However, the biggest news of the week came from this week's USRowing/Collegiate Rowing Coaches Poll.

Dayton's Lightweight 8 earned a No. 10 national ranking in the coaches poll.

Success is nothing new for the Flyers' Lightweight 8. In 2006 the Lightweight 8 finished eighth in the nation in the poll and at the IRA National Championships. The Lightweight 8 also defended its Atlantic 10 Championship last year.

Dayton will be racing in the Varsity 8, 2nd Varsity 8, Varsity 4, Novice 8 and Novice 4 events. Head Coach Mike Farrey and his squad will likely utilize this race as a tuneup for the Atlantic 10 championship next weekend.

It will be 12 days since UD's last event. At the Cincinnati Regatta, Dayton finished in third place against the Cincinnati Bearcats, Indiana Hoosiers and Eastern Michigan Eagles.

Out of the five events raced, a UD team placed in third in four of the five heats. The best finish of the day came with the Flyers Second Varsity 8 with a time of 7:01.4. In the Varsity 8 race, the Flyers edged out Eastern Michigan to finish in third with a time of 7:02.2.

Last year at the Knecht Cup, UD's Second Varsity 8 finished in third while the Varsity 8 tallied a fifth place finish. The Varsity 4 was also able to make the second level finals after posting a time of 8:48.7 in their heat.
