FLYERS TRUMP ACES TO WIN DAYTON MARRIOTT FLYER CLASSIC

Sep. 19, 2004

The University of Dayton men's soccer team won the Dayton Marriott Flyer Classic Sunday with a 2-1 win over Evansville at Baujan Field. George Nanchoff (North Royalton, OH) and Omar Jarun (Peachtree City, GA) gave UD a 2-0 lead that held up. Four Flyers were named to the All-Classic Team, including MVP Tye Stebbins (Zionsville, IN).

The Flyers opened the scoring in the eighth minute as Stebbins played it up the left side to Dasan Robinson (Elyria, OH), who crossed it to Nanchoff. Nanchoff drilled the ball home for a 1-0 lead at the 7:07 mark.

After the break, Dayton extended the lead to 2-0 as Aaron Swanson (Ft. Wayne, IN) passed off to Mpoki Tenende (Missouri City, TX). Tenende found Jarun in front of the net and junior placed it into the corner from 10 yards out for his first goal as a Flyer.

Just 1:13 later, Evansville got on the board when Dayton keeper Matt Troop (Peachtree City, GA) punched the ball out of the box, but Jose Chairez one-timed it over everyone and into the net from 30 yards.

Troop made five saves for his second-straight win. He earned a place on the All-Classic team with Stebbins, Robinson and defender Dan Hartwig (St. Louis, MO).

Every game of the Classic was a 2-1 contest, as Wright State knocked off DePaul 2-1 in the day's first game.

The Flyers are now 2-3-1 on the season and will host Eastern Illinois Friday at 7:30 p.m. at Baujan Field.
