Feb. 22, 2006 CHICAGO, IL - University of Dayton midfielder Terry Alvino will join the preseason training camp of Major League Soccer's Chicago Fire in in Guadalajara, Mexico. The Second Team All-Atlantic 10 pick joins the Fire camp on a trial basis. Primarily a defensive midfielder, Alvino scored two goals and six assists in his lone season with the Flyers in 2005. Alvino helped the Flyers to six shutout victories and scored three game-winning goals. He spent his first three collegiate seasons at Division II University of the Incarnate Word in San Antonio, TX, where he was an All-America pick his junior year. Camp began February 21 and runs through March 2. Alvino and fellow UD senior Dasan Robinson both hope to become the second and third Flyers on the active roster for the Fire. Robinson, who led UD and was third in the Atlantic 10 in assists last year, was drafted in the Supplemental Round of the MLS Draft by the Fire and just completed the first Chicago preseason camp, in Bradenton, FL. Former Flyers' forward Chris Rolfe was the Fire's leading scorer last season, his rookie campaign. He will not be in camp as he continues to train with the U.S. Men's National Team in hopes of making the 2006 World Cup roster. The only other trialist to travel to Mexico with the "Men in Red" is M/F Andy Rosenband, a member of the 2005 Fire who also trained with the squad during its first preseason camp in Florida. |
