Oct. 23, 2005

Box Score

DAYTON, Ohio - Dayton scored two goals early and Nick Tarkany posted his second-straight shutout as the Flyers beat Fordham, 2-0, Sunday at Baujan Field. Terry Alvino and Omar Jarun scored the Flyers goals, helping UD move into third in the Atlantic 10 with a 3-1-2 conference mark and a 8-4-3 overall record.

Alvino (St. Louis, MO) blasted a shot from 25 yards away over Fordham starting keeper Justin Burse. The goal was Alvino's fourth of the year and came at the 12:03 mark. It was UD's first shot of the game.

Dayton's second shot also went in, as Dasan Robinson (Elyria, OH) crossed the ball to Jarun (Peachtree City, GA) and Jarun one-time the ball towards the net. It was re-directed off a Fordham defender and past Burse. For Jarun, it was his fifth goal in the last six games, his seventh of the season.

UD controlled virtually the entire first half, as Fordham put just one shot on frame. Burse was lifted at halftime for Stephen Faber, after stopping just one of three shots on goal.

In the second half, Faber kept Fordham in the game with three saves, but the Rams had limited scoring chances as UD controlled the midfield. Fordham's best chance came in the 78th minute, when Anthony Akande came in on a breakaway on the right side, and shot from about 12 yards out. But Tarkany made the save to preserve the shutout.

Tarkany finished with two saves to earn his second-straight shutout after being re-inserted into the lineup. His goals against average on the season is now 0.78 as he improves to 3-2-2 in net for the Flyers.

Fordham falls to 7-4-2 overall, and 1-2-2 in the Atlantic 10. The Flyers move into third place in the A-10 with a .667 win percentage. The standings this season are sorted by win percentage and the top six teams earn bids in the Atlantic 10 Championship.

Dayton will play its final regular season home game on Friday, against Xavier at 7:30 p.m. UD will honor it's 13 seniors with Senior Night activities prior to kickoff. The Flyers wrap up the A-10 slate the following weekend in Philadelphia, with games against Saint Joseph's (Fri, 7:00 p.m.) and Temple (Sun., 1:00 p.m.)
