DAYTON, Ohio - The Atlantic 10's leading scorer, Rhode Island's Jeffrey Gonsalves, scored in each half to give the Rams a 2-0 win at Dayton Sunday. Both came on face-to-face showdowns with UD goalie Nick Tarkany in the 30th and 53rd minutes. The first goal, Gonsalves' 10th of the year, came from four yards out after passes from Callum Bissett and David Badecki. Kevin Hamill fed a streaking Gonsalves about 40 yards from the net. Gonsalves took the ball within 15 yards of the net before launching it past Tarkany for the second goal. Ram goalie Chris Pennock stopped five Flyer shots on goal. The Flyers' best scoring chance was with 9:21 left in the contest on a free kick about 25 yards from the net. The Flyers, who now embark on a four-game road trip during the next two weekends, fall to 4-7 overall and 0-3 in the A-10. UD's second game on the trip is next Sunday against nationally-ranked Saint Louis. Rhode Island improves to 6-4-3 overall and 3-1 in the conference. |
