DAYTON, Ohio - Twice the UD men's soccer team answered Michigan goals to tie the match and walk away with a 2-2 tie in double-overtime Thursday at Baujan Field. Terry Alvino and Jonathan Welsh scored to push UD to 4-3-1 on the year, and run the Flyers' home unbeaten streak to 11.

"I'm really proud of our guys," said head coach Dennis Currier. "We battled for all 90 minutes of regulation and then the two overtimes. I'm proud of their effort, they played great soccer and I thought we deserved to win."

Michigan (6-2-1) scored early, in the 11th minute off a corner kick. Adam Bruh sent the corner to the front of the box and Kevin Savitskie headed it in for second goal of the year.

But just 2:36 later, senior midfielder Terry Alvino (St. Louis, MO) sent a blistering shot from 35 yards out over everyone. The ball dipped into the net to knot the game at 1-1, and give Alvino - a transfer from D-II Incarnate Word - his first goal as a Flyer.

Dayton poured in on the Wolverines in the second half, out-shooting Michigan 12-3. But it was Michigan who took the lead when Steve Bonnell came in down the left side and place a shot to the lower right side of the net from the top of the box. The goal came at the 75:19 mark.

Again, Dayton had an answer. Three minutes and 15 seconds later, Welsh (Sugarland, TX) came into the clear 20 yards from the Michigan net and beat Peter Dzubay to the right side of the net to tie the match.

The Dayton D clamped down and Michigan had just two shots from the 57th minute until the end of overtime. The Flyers out-shot Michigan 5-1 in the overtime periods, with neither team connecting.

During a mad scramble in the second overtime, senior defender Nate Darr (Centerville, OH) appeared to put the ball over the goal line before it was caught by Dzubay, but the linesman had already signaled the Flyers' offside.

Steve Ladislaw (Philadelphia, PA) made one save to run his record to 3-1-1 since taking over in net.

For the match, UD held a 23-12 edge in shots, an 8-3 lead in shots on goal, and 10-3 margin in corners.

"The guys are really gelling as a team and created some great chances," Currier added. "We're playing exciting soccer right now."

The Flyers had won their previous 10 matches at Baujan Field, dating back to 2003, but kept the home-unbeaten streak alive at 11 games.

Dayton visits Wright State Sunday in a match that begins at 7:00 p.m. in Fairborn. UD opens conference play the following weekend against George Washington on Friday at 7:30 p.m.

Notes: Dayton is unbeaten this season when scoring two or more goals at 3-0-1. The Flyers are 50-5-5 when tallying twice since the start of the 2000 season... Michigan and Dayton have met five times in the last five years, with the series at 2-2-1 since Michigan re-joined Division I...
