Drew Tyrer announced the addition of Kenny Wittenberg to the UD golf program

May 9, 2006

DAYTON, Ohio - The University of Dayton men's golf team has announced the signing of Kenny Wittenberg to a National Letter of Intent. The Glenbard South High School star will play for UD coach Drew Tyrer beginning in Fall 2006.

"Kenny is an accomplished player who brings a lot to UD with a great work ethic and outstanding character," Tyrer said. "He has played well this spring and we expect him to keep it rolling into the fall season."

Wittenberg held the low score of 72 at the Illinois State Sectionals Championship Tournament and advanced to the Illinois State Championship as a junior.

The two-time team MVP also played in a Future Collegians World Tour (FCWT) at the Tiburon in Naples. He shot (77,77,75) and placed eighth overall. Recently, Wittenberg played in the DuPage Junior County Classic with 112 participants including the Illinois state champion and the next top four players following. He won with scores of 69 and 75 while taking home the tournament title in a playoff with two other top golfers by chipping in on a par three for birdie to win.

Wittenberg also finished second at the Whistling Straits FCWT after holding the lead following the first day. He eventually lost in on the third playoff hole. Wittenberg has also tied for sixth and eighth in other FCWT competitions this Spring.

Dayton placed eighth at the 2006 Atlantic 10 Men's Golf Championships. Led by the A-10 Rookie of the Year, UD had its lowest rounds of the season in the conference championship match as four golfers finished within two shots of par in the final round.
