MEN'S GOLF READY TO START ATLANTIC 10 CHAMPIONSHIP PLAY

The Flyers head south for three rounds of play at the 2006 Atlantic 10 Championships

May 4, 2006

The University of Dayton Men's Golf program finishes up its spring season at the Atlantic 10 Championship in Orlando, FL at Orange County National Gold Course. The Championship runs from Friday thru Sunday, with one round being played each day.

"I think our team will finish strong behind the play of two seniors and a great freshman Rob Chappell," UD Head Coach Drew Tyrer said. "If we can focus on consistency and playing each shot well, we should be in good shape this weekend."

Leading the Flyers into Orlando is graduate student Brett Gould, who has been a stalwart of the UD Golf Program for the last five years. Gould comes into the event having played all five tournaments of the spring, and averages 76.58 strokes per round, which is the second-lowest average on the team.

Senior Adam Myers heads to Orlando with a low round of 76 at the UD Spring Invitational and a tie for 11th at the UC/UD Men's Collegiate Invitational as his best finish of the season.

"I am excited for these two seniors," Tyrer said. "I have seen them grow as players since their freshmen year and being able to play in the A-10s as a senior is a great way to end a career."

Freshman Rob Chappell comes into the Championship with the lowest average on the team, shooting 75.50 shots per round. He also has the low round of the spring season for the Flyers with a 71 at the Norm Bullock Collegiate Classic and h as been the low Flyer scorer in the last two events he has competed in.

Freshman Matt Friend has shown improvement throughout the season, culminating with him shotting his low round of the season, a 77, at the last event the Flyers participated in, the UD Spring Invitational.

Junior John Zaller rounds out the team being sent to Orlando. He, too, has played all 12 rounds of golf this spring season, with his low round being a 77 shot at the Norm Bullock Collegiate Classic.
