Rob Chappell won the men's golf MVP award

April 27, 2006

The University of Dayton golf program handed out its yearly awards at its end-of-the-year banquet held Tuesday evening. Freshman Rob Chappell won the men's MVP award and junior Lindsey Greuter took home the women's MVP at the ceremony.

Chappell played in four tournaments this spring, compiling a 75.50 average and shooting a low round of 71. He was the lowest scoring Flyer in the past two tournaments, and his best finish of the season was second at the Norm Bullock Collegiate Classic.

Greuter finished the spring season with an 86.00 average, which was the best on the team. She competed in four tournaments, playing nine rounds. Her low round was an 82, and her best finish was ninth in the Bellarmine Women's Invitational.

The Coach's Awards were also handed out during the evening to graduate student Brett Gould and junior Melissa Gaus.

Gould played in all five tournaments this spring, finishing with a 76.58 average. His low round of the season was a 72 and he was the low Flyer finisher three times this season. His best finish was a tie for sixth at the UC/UD Men's Collegiate Invitational.

Gaus played in four tournaments for the Flyers in the spring season, shooting nine rounds. He average was 87.11, good enough for second on the team. She also accounted for the low round of the season by the women's team, shooting a 79 at the CAA Championship on the very challenging Pinehurst #6 Course in Pinehurst, NC.

The women's program is done for the season, finishing last weekend at the CAA Championship. The men, however, have one competition left, the season-ending Atlantic 10 Championship in Orlando, FL held May 5-7.
