Lance Surridge was promoted to UD's Director of Basketball Operations in August. He replaced Jon Borobich, who became a full-time assistant coach at Oakland University. Surridge was a graduate assistant with the Dayton men's basketball program last season. He will receive his MBA from the University during the 2005-06 academic year. After graduating from Milwaukee (WI) Lutheran High School, Surridge attended Waubonsee Community College in Sugar Grove, Illinois. He was all-conference and all-region in both basketball and baseball at Waubonsee, and was named the school's Male Athlete of the Year. He was also named Skyway Conference Academic Athlete of the Year. He then moved to the University of North Carolina Greensboro, where earned his Business Administration degree. A Dean's List student and a member of the school's athletic honor roll, Surridge was two-time all-conference and two-time all-tournament in baseball. The St. Paul, Minnesota native was drafted by the Boston Red Sox and pitched in their farm system for four seasons until arm injuries ended his career before the 2002 season. He worked in the private sector for Wachovia Securities before joining the UD basketball program. "I'm very happy to be able to promote Lance to our operations position," Flyer coach Brian Gregory said. "Being a part of our program already, he has a great grasp of how we utilize the technology we have available to us in scouting and player development. His background as a professional athlete gives him a unique perspective of what it takes to perform at a high level, and his positive character traits make him a great fit for our staff." |
