July 19, 2007 LISLE, Ill. - University of Dayton infielder Cole Tyrell will be part of the 24-man roster that will represent the Central Illinois Collegiate League in an All-Star game with the KIT (Kentucky Illinois Tennessee) League on Monday in Huntingburg, Ind. Through the end of play on Wednesday, Tyrell leads the DuPage Dragons in runs scored with 25 and has started all 33 games at shortstop. He also leads the squad with an on base percentage of .457, which has been bolstered by a league-best 11 times hit by pitch. Tyrell has 30 hits in 33 games played for a .283 batting average and has produced while on base with a team-high 15 stolen bases in just 19 attempts. Tyrell's recent success comes following his first collegiate season this spring. The 2007 Flyer second baseman appeared in 51 of 54 games, starting 46 in his rookie campaign. He amassed a .328 on base percentage and was one of five Flyers to be hit by pitch at least 10 times. Tyrell also committed just 10 errors in 277 fielding chances while taking part in 34 double plays. He will be one of just two returning starters in the UD infield next season. Dayton finished 21-33 overall and 9-18 in Atlantic 10 Conference play in 2007. The Flyers finished with their seventh 20-win season under the direction of eighth-year Head Coach Tony Vittorio. UD had 29 of its 54 games decided by two runs or less and went 11-18 in those games. |
