The Flyers will need to piece together two wins Friday to keep their season alive on Elimination Day at the 2005 Atlantic 10 Baseball Championships at Fifth Third Field in Downtown Dayton. After losing a 7-4 decision to Rhode Island, UD was forced to the lower bracket of the Tournament against Duquesne. Dayton took care of its first step by beating the Dukes 13-9 on Thursday evening to advance to the third day of the Tournament. UD will now face A-10 West Division Champion George Washington at 5:35 p.m., following a short rain delay. If Dayton beats GW, they would then face Richmond in its third-consecutive elimination game Friday evening at 7 p.m. Junior Bryan Chandler had a pair of three-RBI performances for the Flyers on Thursday. He was 3-for-4 with a walk in the loss to the Rams. Chandler then came back with a 1-for-5 evening which included a run scored against the Dukes. Senior Aaron Hepner has kept swinging a sizzling bat with a pair of multi-hit games Thursday. He is now hitting .417 (5-for-12) for the Tournament with a three-run home run, a walk, a stolen base and two runs scored. Senior righthander Drew Chesebro will get the start for Dayton against George Washington. Chesebro has a 1-2 record this year and has made five starts while throwing a total of 36.2 innings. He holds a 7.36 ERA and has struck out 17 batters. UD has not yet announced its probable starter if it would advance to the 7 p.m. game. Every game of the Atlantic 10 Championships will be available both with GameTracker on www.atlantic10.org and live in the Dayton area and online on 1610 AM Information Radio. |
