UD BASEBALL SWEEPS DOUBLEHEADER TO BREAK SCHOOL RECORD



Bryan Chandler had five hits in the two games combined as UD swept Richmond

DAYTON - The Flyer baseball team closed out its 2005 regular season with a doubleheader sweep of Richmond in Atlantic 10 action Friday at Time Warner Cable Stadium. Dayton won the first game 8-0 and came from behind to beat the Spiders in the season finale, 10-8.

UD (34-21, 16-8 A-10) closed out its regular season with a school record 34 wins as well as its most wins in A-10 play ever while securing the fourth seed in the 2005 Atlantic Baseball Championship. Dayton will play in the opening game of the Tournament against fifth-seeded Duquesne, Wednesday at noon at Dragons Stadium in Downtown Dayton.

The Flyers won the first game Friday 8-0 as Luke Trubee pitched his second straight complete game shutout to lift his record to an A-10 best 12-2 this year. He concluded the regular season with 17 consecutive shutout innings after surrendering just five hits while striking out five batters on the afternoon.

Dayton out hit Richmond 7-5 on the strength of a 3-for-4 performance by Galen Schumm. Schumm also had his eighth stolen base of the season while scoring once and driving in a run.

Bryan Chandler was 1-for-3 with two RBI while Michael Massa was 0-for-3 but scored twice for the Flyers.

In the season finale, UD used three runs in the seventh and four more in the eighth to secure a 10-8 victory.

Chandler continued his hot bat as he went 3-for-4 with a double, sacrifice fly, two runs scored and an RBI.

Three other Flyers has multi-hit games as Bobby Getty was 2-for-4 with a double, run scored and two RBI. Aaron Hepner was 2-for-5 with a double and two RBI while Michael DeLuca finished 2-for-4 with an RBI.

Kyle Lindsay (4-3) came out of the bullpen to earn the win on the mound for UD after allowing six runs on seven hits over 2.2 innings pitched.

Craig Rohren closed out the Spiders in the ninth for his seventh save of the year.
