CHARLOTTE, NC - A four-run seventh-inning rally by #23 Charlotte downed visiting Dayton, 6-1 on Sunday afternoon. The Flyers (17-21, 6-9 A-10) return home to host its next five games after winning one of three meetings with the nationally-ranked 49ers in their Atlantic 10 baseball series. UD was limited to just five hits including a pair of singles by senior Bobby Getty who pressed into the leadoff spot in the lineup due to an illness suffered by classmate Michael Massa who had made his 200th straight start in Saturday's win over the 49ers. Freshman Cole Tyrell laid down a sacrifice bunt, doubled, walked and stole a base while Scott Dunwoody and Kevin Miller each added singles for the Flyers. Shawn Gizynski walked and scored the lone run of the day for Dayton on a RBI groundout by Michael DeLuca. Sophomore Sean Finn allowed just two runs on five hits over 5.1 innings pitched while falling to 2-3 on the season. Senior Cale Ort surrendered three runs on two hits while fanning a pair of 49ers in 1.0 innings pitched. Alex Dye closed out the game by giving up one run on one hit and two walks in 1.2 innings of relief. Dayton opens its five-game homestand with non-conference games against Wright State on Tuesday (3 p.m. ET) and Tiffin on Thursday (4 p.m. ET) at Time Warner Cable Stadium. |
