Dec. 28, 2007 Dubuque, Iowa - The Panthers women's basketball team traveled to Dubuque, Iowa to compete in the prestigious Clarke College Holiday Tournament today and came away with a 91-88 victory over University of Illinois at Springfield. The victory sends DU into the semifinals where they will face Robert Morris University on Sunday, December 30. The first half looked as if the Panthers would run away with the game as they used a solid offensive attack and easy transition buckets to take a commanding 51-36 lead into the lockeroom. Illinois Springfield would battle back though in the 2nd half as they quickly erased the Panthers scoring advantage to make it a nailbiter. Stephani Roles came off the bench to provide a huge lift for the Panthers as she posted 13 points and 7 rebounds. Senior All-American Jeanette Woodberry found her groove once again as she poured in 30 points on 12-19 shooting. Woodberry also posted eight rebounds and four assists in the victory. DU will play against Robert Morris University in the first of two semifinals on Sunday. The winner will advance to Monday's championship game at 3:15pm CST. |
