Caledonia, Mich. - Playing in only her 49th game in a Panthers uniform, Jeanette Woodberry sealed her mark as one of the most prolific scorers in NAIA basketball. With 11 points today, the Senior All-American went over the 1000 point mark as she led her Panthers to a convincing WHAC opening 82-53 win over visiting Concordia University. The win lifts DU to 14-3 on the year and 1-0 in conference play. They will now hit the road for their next two games beginning Wednesday, January 9 when they travel to Siena Heights University in Adrian, Mich.

The first half opened with a series of open-court layups by the home team as they managed to build a 20-12 lead just 9:53 into the game. The Cardinals struggled with the full-court press that the Panthers used and Freshman Kristi Boehm proved to be an all-around player once again as she continued her stellar season on the defensive end of the floor finishing the game with three more steals. The Panthers then extended the lead to 19 with a 12-1 run over the next 6:00 to take a commanding 32-13 with 3:18 left in the half, but lost Woodberry for the half when she picked up her 2nd foul on a reach in call. Concordia used it to their advantage and finished the half on a 7-0 run to trail by only 12 at the break (32-20).

Concordia then came out of the locker room and hit a long three-pointer to get within 9 points at 32-23 but that would be the closest they would get for the remainder of the game. Davenport went on a 31-11 run over the next ten minutes highlighted by numerous baskets by Freshman Brittany Lyman and Junior Lynne Blomberg. The birthday girl Sara Haverdink also helped the cause with a 3-pointer at the 9:50 mark to complete the run and put Davenport in full control.

The only thing that the Panthers team had yet to do was figure out a way to get Woodberry an open look as she sat on just nine points with just 6:00 left but then got a breakaway off a steal from the Panthers defender and laid it in to give her 1001 total career points. Coach Mark Youngs immediately subbed for her and the crowd gave her a standing ovation. Lyman led the offensive charge as she posted her most impressive game of her short career as she ended up with 21 points and was followed in double digits by Blomberg (18) and Woodberry (11).

Davenport will travel to Adrian on Wednesday before hitting the road again one week from today when they take on Indiana Tech in Fort Wayne, Ind.
