The Panthers faced off against cross town rival Grand Valley State in the championship game of the Grand Rapids ACHA Showcase.  The Panthers were led by a Grand Rapids native Adam Thomas.  Adam scored 4 goals in the win as the Panthers took home the 1st place trophy for the second consecutive year.  The Panthers took a 6-2 lead into the third perioid and GVSU gave it thier best effort to come back, but the Panthers killed off numerous penalties to hold on to the win with the final score of 7-5.  Head Coach Paul Lowden was displeased with the Panthers effort in the third period.  "I am not happy that we let a team back in the game.  As good as we played in the first two periods, we played undisciplined in the 3rd.  We will definitely be correcting these issues on Monday."  - Head Coach Paul Lowden  This is the first time the Lakers and Panthers played each other this year and all the games expect to be as intense as this one.  The Lakers are new members in the GMHL, and they are a great addition to the conference.  Davenport will travel to Kentucky to face off against the undefeated Cool Cats.  DU will have to play a more disciplined game to come away with two victories in a tough environment to play.  This trip marks the first time Coach Sweeney has returned to the place where he played and coached.  "I have a lot of friends still in Kentucky and a lot of friends coming in to watch us play, the bottom line is I want us to win both games."  - Coach Phil Sweeney  The games will be on Friday and Saturday night and the puck drops at Midnight both nights.
