No. 67 Northridge Makes it Five Straight with Win over UC Davis, 4-2
NORTHRIDE, Calif. --- The Cal State Northridge women’s tennis team ran its record to 5-0 overall and 4-0 in the Big West Conference with a 4-2 victory over UC Davis in a Big West Conference match. Senior Kanykey Koichumanova scored the deciding point for the Matadors, winning the No. 2 singles match, 2-6, 6-2 and 6-2, over the Aggies’ Robin Guier.
The match had to be moved indoors and to accommodate the delay, singles was played first. Junior Victoria Brymer lost her top singles draw, 2-6 and 4-6, to Randi Schuler. However, junior Sandra Kukler won her No. 3 singles draw, 6-1 and 6-3, over Desiree Stone.
In the second half of the draw, UC Davis’ Herzyl Legaspi won the fourth singles match, 6-4 and 6-4, over CSUN senior Canna Furtua. Sophomore Kristy Fournell grabbed another point for Northridge with a 6-4, 7-6 (7-5) victory in the fifth singles match over Emma Shapiro. Finally Brooke Doane regisetered the fourth Matador point with a 6-0, 6-3 win over Jessica Harris.
The teams did not play doubles matches due to the weather.
The Matadors play once this week, hosting the Rice Owls on Saturday at the Matador Tennis Complex for a 2 p.m. match.
