Titans Tie Season Series with 3-1 Win

Nov. 7, 2007

Box Score

Irvine, Calif. - Titan junior Brittany Moore posted 22 kills and eight blocks as Cal State Fullerton upset third place UC Irvine, 3-1, with a 30-27, 20-30, 30-23, 31-29 Big West Conference victory Wednesday night at Crawford Court.

The win snapped a three-match losing streak for Fullerton which improved its record to 12-13 overall and 6-7 in the Big West. The sixth win in conference tied a school record for the most wins in league action and sets the 2007 team up to break the school record within the team's next three Big West matches with one more win. Irvine drops to 19-9, 9-4 and snaps a three-game winning streak.

Moore trailed Irvine's Kari Pestolesi by one kill for the match lead, but her eight blocks, including her career-high four solos led all players defensively at the net. Moore was flanked offensively by Jennifer Francisco who tallied 13 kills and a .429 attack percentage and Alex Wolnisty with 12 kills.

The Titans posted their best attack percentage with a .282 team mark in game three as Fullerton scored the four last points of the game to take a 2-1 lead. Fullerton finished the match by out-hitting Irvine .229 to .213 as a team overall.

Despite five ties in game number four, Cal State Fullerton never lost the lead and put the game away courtesy of a kill by Wolnisty, one of Moore's four solo blocks and an unforced Anteater error over the last four rallies.

Cami Croteau (21) and Genie Francisco combined for 34 digs on the defensive end for Fullerton, while Irvine tallied three players with 10-or-more digs led by match-leader Devon Sutherland with 22.

Wolnisty added six blocks, Erin Saddler four, and Julie Geissert four as Fullerton out-blocked Irvine 16.0 to 9.5. Irvine's Kristen Kelly led the home team with six block assists.

The Titans return to the floor Thursday night as they travel to UC Riverside to take on the Highlanders in another of this week's league matches on the road. Match time is 7 p.m. and it can be heard on the air at fullertontitans.com as Patrick Alog brings all the play-by-play action.
