Fresno State Downs Cold-Shooting Fullerton, 68-50

Dec. 9, 2005

Box Score

FRESNO, CA - Host Fresno State had three players in double figures led by Chantella Perera's game-high 16 points as the Bulldogs defeated visiting Cal State Fullerton, 68-50, on Friday night at the Save Mart Center in Fresno, Calif.

The loss dropped the Titans to 1-6 overall on the season while the Bulldogs improved to 4-2, winning their sixth straight game in the series between former Big West Conference rivals.

Freshman Toni Thomas, who had been held to just four points in her last two games after scoring in double figures in her first three collegiate contests, led the Titans with 14 points and narrowly missed her second double-double of the season with nine rebounds.

Sophomore center Sandra Woloschuk came off the bench to score 12 points and grab five rebounds in 17 minutes of play. Fullerton's leading scorer, Charlee Underwood, who had scored in double figures in each of her last five games, was held scoreless for the first time this season, grabbing four rebounds and blocking a shot in 21 minutes.

Perera led two other Bulldogs in double figures as Andrea Roberson and Erica Henry came off the bench to add 10 points each. Roberson grabbed 10 rebounds to complete the double-double while Henry led the way with three of Fresno State's seven blocks on the night.

Bulldogs' leading scorer Amy Parrish, who came into the night averaging over 17 points per contest, scored just three second half points, but matched her season average with 10 rebounds on the night to help lead Fresno State to a 52-41 rebounding advantage.

The host Bulldogs led wire-to-wire, but it wasn't without a fight as the Titans pulled to within one point on two occassions, the last coming at 20-19 with just under eight minutes left in the first half.

Fullerton couldn't come up with the go-ahead score, however, as Fresno State went on a 10-0 run and closed out the half on an 18-6 run en route to a 38-25 halftime advantage.

The hole proved to be too big for the Titans to dig out of, as they went cold from the floor after the break, making only 7-of-37 from the field (.189) and coming no closer than 14 points the rest of the way.

Fresno State, which led by as many as 29 points in the second half, also went cold from the floor in the second half, making just 7-of-37 (.261), but the halftime lead was enough despite a 14-3 run by Fullerton to close out the game.

The Bulldogs hit on 20-of-27 from the free throw line for the game, including a 16-for-20 clip (.800) in the second half. Not to be outdone, the Titans hit 14-of-18 from the line (.778), including 11-of-12 in the second half.

Fullerton returns to action on Sunday afternoon (Dec. 11) at 2 p.m. as the Titans travel to take on San Francisco at War Memorial Gym. The game will be broadcast live on www.FullertonTitans.com.
