Titans Tripped Up by Toreros, 64-46, in Non-Conference Game

Dec. 1, 2005

Box Score

FULLERTON, CA - Cal State Fullerton junior Charlee Underwood scored 12 of her game-high 17 points in the second half, but it wasn't enough to bring the Titans back from a nine-point halftime deficit as visiting San Diego defeated Fullerton, 64-46, in a non-conference match-up on Thursday night at Titan Gym.

With the loss, the Titans dropped their fifth straight game to begin the season while the Toreros evened their record at 3-3.

Underwood hit 7-of-14 from the floor, including a trio of three-pointers. Senior Amber Pruitt was the only other Titan in double figures, coming off the bench and pouring in 12 points on 6-of-11 shooting. Freshman Toni Thomas, who entered the game as Fullerton's leading scorer, was held to without a point for the first time this season.

USD was led by Tiara Harris, who had 12 points to lead a balanced Toreros attack that saw all but two players score. Sabine Loewe led all players with 10 rebounds.

San Diego led for most of the first half, but Fullerton took its first lead at 15-13 on an Andrea Adams lay-up with just over nine minutes remaining. The advantage was short-lived, however, as the Toreros closed out the period with an 18-9 run to head into the lockerroom up, 33-24.

The second half was more San Diego as the Toreros built an 11-point lead with nine minutes left. Fullerton, which got to within seven points with just under 14 minutes remaining, would get no closer as USD went on a 17-0 run that spanned just over four minutes to build an insurmountable 26-point lead.

The Toreros shot just under 46 percent for the game to the Titans' 35 percent. Fullerton was hurt by 20 turnovers on the night which led to 24 USD points.

Cal State Fullerton returns to action next Tuesday (Dec. 6) as the Titans host Nevada for a 5 p.m. tip-off at Titan Gym. San Diego next hosts Fresno State on Dec. 5 at 7 p.m.
