Former Titan Infielder Makes His Major League Debut

June 10, 2006

New york, NY - Former Cal State Fullerton infielder Mike Rouse made his Major League debut for the Oakland A's June 9, marking the 41st Titan to play in a Major League Baseball game.

A Titan infielder in 2001, Rouse hit .377 with 12 home runs and 62 RBI, earning first-team All-Big West Conference honors.

In his big-league debut, Rouse went 3-for-3 with a double and three runs scored. He got his first career hit, a single in his first at bat off of probable Hall of Famer Randy Johnson of the New York Yankees at Yankee Stadium.

"I couldn't ask for anything more than that," the 26-year old Rouse said.

He started at second base for the A's on Friday night after 279 career-games at Triple-A Sacramento.

Earlier this season, Rouse's teammate in 2001, Wes Littleton was called up by the Texas Rangers for three games. Littleton did not pitch. He joins Luis Estrella (Titan in 1996) as the two Fullerton players not to have participated once they were called up.

The 2001 Cal State Fullerton team has now been the producer of five Titans to at least put on a big league uniform (Chad Cordero - WAS, Littleton - TEX, Kirk Saarloos - OAK, Rouse - OAK, and Shane Costa - KC).

Rouse's former school Cal State Fullerton is one win away from their 14th trip to the College World Series in Omaha, Neb. The Titans play Missouri Saturday night at 7 p.m.
