Final Stats

San Luis Obispo, Calif. - Three unearned runs off Paul Canedo was enough for Cal Poly to beat Cal State Fullerton 3-1 Sunday afternoon at Baggett Stadium, handing the Mustangs their first series win over the Titans since 1973, and the first time in the Titans' 33-year Div. I history.

Fullerton drops its third consecutive Big West Conference series and fourth overall and drop to 32-21, 9-9 in league play. Cal Poly improves to 29-24, 10-8. This marked the 15th division one series between the two teams.

A couple of Titan errors allowed for back-to-back run-scoring bunts by Joshua Thomas, and Pat Pezet, and an RBI-single by leadoff hitter Logan Schafer giving the Mustangs all they would need off Titan starter Canedo. In his first-career start, Canedo lasted just 1.2 innings, surrendering three runs and three hits. Canedo dropped to 0-1.

Thomas Eager turned in 7.1 solid innings for the Mustangs scattering seven hits and allowing just one run on a Chris Jones sac-fly in the top of the fourth. Eager upped his record to 10-3, fanning two on 110 pitches.

Evan Reed pitcked up his 10th save of the year, retiring all five hitters he faced, and shut down the only Titan opportunity to catch Cal Poly. With runners at second an third with one out, Reed used six straight fastballs to strikeout John Curtis and get Chris Jones to fly out to end the threat.

Titan Reliever Bryan Harris was the lone bright spot from the mound on Sunday, as he tossed five scoreless innings of relief to give his team every opportunity to score a couple of runs. Harris surrendered just one hit, a single by Kyle Smith in the seventh, while striking out four.

Clark Hardman, Josh Fellhauer and Billy Pinkerton each had two hits as the Titans out-hit the Mustangs 7-5. Hardman's third-inning triple extended his hitting streak to 10 games.

Fullerton travels home to Face Long Beach State in the final three games of the regular season Friday through Sunday at Goodwin Field. Game times are 7 p.m., 6 p.m. and 1 p.m., respectively.
