Concordia Sweeps CSF Opening Meet

Brea, CA - Concordia University (Irvine) won both the men's and women's team competition in the collegiate division of the Cal State Fullerton Season Opener Cross Country Meet Saturday morning at Carbon Canyon Park in Brea. The Concordia men placed four runners in the top 19 spots on the way to 89 points to finish ahead of Loyola Marymount (113) and Cal State Fullerton (148). The Eagles' women had five runners in the top 17 for a total of only 44 poins to easily outdistance runnersup Cal Poly Pomona (118) and Cal State Fullerton (129). The collegiate winner of the men's race was Aron Rono of Azusa Pacific, who covered the 8K course in 24:48.20 to finish 14 seconds ahead of Carlos Handler of Concordia. The women's winner was Laura Mickelson of LMU in 17:10.90 over 5K with Karla Albunez of Cal State L.A. runnerup at 18:26.10. In the open division, Cal Coast Track Club took both team honors with former Titans Nick Arciniaga (fourh overall at 25:28.40) and Heather Killeen Frisone (second overall at 18:11.30) leading the way. The top Cal State Fullerton runners on the day were Jordan Horn, who was third in the men's collegiate division at 25:36.10, and Luz Valdez, who was seventh in 18:55.60 in the women's race. |
